I just heard a news article out of Alaska. Some group there had decided to make a statement about Global Warming. They made a giant ice sculpture, carved into the likeness of Al Gore. Then they made a prediction about it. Their prediction: “Due to Global Warming, this giant ice sculpture will melt. It will occur sometime after March.”
I can only assume that they are confident about their prediction, because sometime after March is traditionally when the temperature begins to rise above the freezing mark of 32 degrees Fahrenheit and remain there long enough to melt the ice.
Global Warming is, of course, just one of the many issues that are debated. It seems like every year, sometimes even every day; a new topic is discovered to be discussed, which has never even been heard of before. What is even more fascinating to me is that we hadn’t figured out solutions for all of the other problems yet, but now we have another one to discuss and then, yet another.
I begin to wonder if part of the reason that we never figure out the answer to one is that we are so willing and able to shift our focus to the next and the next and the next, until we are never truly focused on anything long enough to actually have an impact upon it, let alone solve it.
It seems like this process only tends to make us feel helpless and overwhelmed to the point that we feel as if nothing can ever be resolved. From that place we begin to feel a sense of hopelessness about the world.
Why do we spend so little of our time focusing on the positives of life? Are we remembering what’s right with our lives and the world? Are we spending enough time, or any for that matter, reflecting on how wonderful life is? We have friends, families, children and a whole great big beautiful world to explore with those loved ones. Maybe it’s time to spend a lot less time discussing what’s wrong with the world, when we are spending time with our loved ones, and start spending time appreciating them and the greatness and beauty of life.
God indeed does hold the universe in the palm of His loving hand. He will indeed see us through any difficult times and challenges. Each person carries the power within themselves to be a blessing and an encouragement to the people within their own circle. We may also spread fear, doubt, discontent and hatred.
Today, why not make an effort to spread a little joy? It will change the world for the better. Blessings!
