In today’s high speed communication world we have the internet for e-mails and even Instant Messaging (IM). One person on one side of the earth can instantly message back and forth with someone on the other side of the earth. Just as quickly as you can type a message and press the send key, your message will appear on your friend’s personal computer monitor screen. Another, now popular message exchanging technology, is the Text Message. This is generally done using cell phones.

Any cell phone, anywhere on earth where they can receive a cell tower signal, can type a written, or “text” message onto their telephone and then send it to anyone else who has a cell phone. Within seconds of sending it, it will alert the recipient that a message has been received. The recipient can then check their message inbox and read the message and then type one into their phone and send an answer back.

I no longer am in awe of the technology. I was using similar technology in my work almost 20 years ago. I am, however, impressed by the speed that today’s networks respond at. One of the most interesting aspects is that in order to communicate back and forth, you both have to be linked to the same service or server. A person using IM on one internet service providers’ server, for example, cannot IM someone who is linked to another’s. They could still send an e-mail, but then it must be routed through the correct servers, to the proper addresses. With IM those address locations get linked together. Similarly, when using a text messaging, one has to know the correct cell phone number (address) in order to connect, but in all cases, as long as you know the server address, you can connect and let the information flow.

We also must connect to the right server (Christ) in order to be linked up and receive His IM’s, text messages or e-mails. If we fail to take the time to connect to the right Server; if we aren’t communicating and sending our text messages (praying) to the correct address or phone number or if we don’t answer our phone when we receive a message from God, we will fail to connect with Him and the messages will cease to flow.

Here’s what a text from God could likely say: “Jesus loves you!” That message of love is revealed to us through the mercy and Grace of God. Ephesians 2:8 tells us that we have been saved by grace through faith, that not of ourselves, lest any one should boast, but it is a gift from God. We recall that grace is a gift received; one that we neither have earned, nor deserved. It is a true gift. Those who believe (Faith) that Jesus is the Son of God and died and resurrected and ascended to overcome sin, receive that free gift from God. The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life.

We must connect with God on His channel in order to understand and receive this gift of forgiveness, which is a gift of love. God loves us and allows us to receive this forgiveness of sins, even though we do not earn it or do anything to deserve it. Actually we earned it because we sinned, strangely enough. We sinned and could not overcome it ourselves, so He did it for us through His own suffering. That, my friends is true love and a big gift! God, however, isn’t through. His next text message: “Give grace to others as I have given it to you.”

If you’re like me you probably get a lot of Forward (FWD) messages on your e-mail. Most of them say to please forward (PLS FWD) to others or you’ll have 7 years bad luck, or something like that. Jesus’ e-mail message to us reads: “You were forgiven much, by grace and in love. PLS FWD.” We are to forward the message of love and grace to others. We, who were forgiven much unto eternal life, are called to love and forgive others, especially those who haven’t earned it. PLS FWD.

Blessings!
